Singapore - Wouldn't our health be dramatically improved if our healthcare system were built on maintaining a balanced lifestyle as opposed to responding to illness?
This may soon be achievable as Stefano Marzano, CEO and Chief Creative Director of Philips Design presents a concept healthcare system that is based on probable socio-cultural and technological forecasts at the Icsid World Design Congress. Taking place in Singapore from 23-25 November, the congress will see leading designers proposing revolutionary design solutions to tackle some of the challenges the world of 2050 will face.
While the 20th Century brought great strides in medical treatment and widespread health provision, it also brought to light new problems - obesity levels, heart disease, diabetes and aging population, to name a few. What will happen next? Stefano proposes to create a scenario based on the phases of a person's life to illustrate the type of challenges faced in creating an appropriate, sustainable system for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. At the Congress, he will present some of the trends identified in the area of healthcare, and translate them into propositions that look at some of the ethical issue we may be faced with, as both the need for healthcare and technology develop over the coming 40 years.
"I propose a new approach to healthcare which brings together caring for illness, as well as preventative health. By looking holistically at what healthcare is, we can create a holistic, personal care network for people as well as new opportunities for business," comments Stefano on his recent work on healthcare.

About DesignSingapore Council
Design changes and improves lives, inspires creativity and new forms of expression. It also enhances business competitiveness in today's crowded marketplace. DesignSingapore Council is Singapore's response to these propositions and opportunities.
As a national initiative, the Council aims to place Singapore on the world map for design creativity. It looks to develop a thriving, multi-disciplinary design cluster of industries and activities in Singapore that has relevance and impact globally.
The initiative also aims to bring design to business boardrooms, new audiences and new markets. The DesignSingapore Council was formed in August 2003 as a department within the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, as the national agency for the promotion and development of Singapore design.
